2016 McLaren 650S GT3 news: Supercar will debut at Geneva Motor Show

The 2015 McLaren 650S GT3 has made an impression showing for its first full racing season in 2015. Just over the weekend, the race car had won the 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour GT endurance race. The McLaren 650S GT3, driven by customer team Tekno Autosports, made a clean sweep during the weekend attaining pole position, fastest lap, overall race win and a new lap record.

After having attained a very successful racing season for 2015, McLaren is gearing up to introduce the newest iteration of the racing car. The 2016 McLaren 650S GT3 will be making its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

McLaren also recently confirmed its 2016 Factory Driver line-up for the 2016 racing season. Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente have been factory drivers since 2012. They will be joined by two new drivers - Côme Ledogar and Colin Thompson. The drivers will be competing in the U.K., mainland Europe and North America. The current line-up of factory drivers will also be present in Geneva to introduce the 2016 model.

With an impressive race car and a crew of talented drivers, McLaren is hoping to attain the same success from 2015.

"The 2016 season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting – and challenging – so far, with more cars racing in more championships across the world ... With the combination that our factory line-up offers, along with the talent in our Driver Academy, we are hoping for a good year," said Andrew Kirkaldy, Managing Director for McLaren GT.

The 2016 McLaren 650S GT3 was developed by McLaren GT, the British automaker's motorsport arm. The race car will be offered to customer teams.

The 2016 McLaren 650S GT3 is powered by the same 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine that delivers 493 horsepower. The engine is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters. In terms of design, the 2016 McLaren 650 GT3 has also been enhanced to make it more capable on the track. The track-only race car comes with a carbon chassis and FIA-approved roll cage. The full list of technical details will be revealed during its world premiere at Geneva.
