2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport news: Compact crossover comes with new 'Dynamic Shield' front fascia

Mitsubishi has debuted the 2016 Outlander Sport featuring a new "Dynamic Shield" front design. The compact crossover comes with sleeker new look and several improvements that makes it an even more appealing vehicle.

"The Outlander Sport has always been a fun vehicle that delivers on its promise of reliability and value, and the 2016 model tear continues to do so with a great new family look that unifies the Mitsubishi CUV lineup," said Mitsubishi Motors North America's executive vice president, Don Swearingen.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has been given the "Dynamic Shield" front fascia that is also found in the much-larger Outlander. This gives the Outlander family a more cohesive design language.

The new front fascia also gives the new Outlander Sport a more aggressive look. It features a bold blacked-out horizontal grille with a thin chrome trim and aggressive-looking headlights. 

The compact crossover also comes with new power folding side mirrors with LED turn indicators, new wheel lip moldings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and new 18-inch alloy wheels. 

The interiors have also been enhanced with stylish accents. Improvements include a redesigned leather-wrapped steering wheel, a new 6.1-inch Mitsubishi Display Audio infotainment system with optional navigation, high-quality seat fabrics and a new light grey interior option. 

The 2016 Outlander Sport comes with the same powertrain options. The first option is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. 

The Outlander Sport comes standard with a front-wheel-drive setup and a CVT automatic transmission. Mitsubishi will also offer an all-wheel-drive system and a 5-speed manual transmission for the 2.0-liter FWD Outlander Sport. 

The 2016 model also comes with new color choices – Cool Silver, Diamond White Pearl and Quartz Brown.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has a starting price of $19.595 and will be arriving at dealers in the coming weeks.
