2017 BMW M240i specs news: Sporty Coupe and Convertible feature inline-6 engine

(BMW)The 2017 BMW M240i delivers a sportier driving experience - thanks to a more powerful engine.

BMW has updated its 2 Series range for the 2017 model year. The 2017 M240i, available as a Coupe or Convertible, now features an upgraded six-cylinder engine that further showcases the car's sporty character.

The BMW M240i is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder petrol engine with enhanced M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. It produces 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. Given the engine's power, the M240i also delivers a rich sound that is characteristic of a BMW straight-six. Fuel economy ratings have also improved. The M240i Coupe uses 36.2 mpg, while the Convertible uses 34 mpg.

The engine was refined with aluminum components, acoustic shielding, a newly integrated TwinScroll turbocharger, compact construction, and an indirect intercooler. An electric wastegate control and a close-coupled arrangement for the caralytic converter were also added to help minimize emissions.

The M240i comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission but can be equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The standard rear-wheel drive system can also be upgraded to the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

Depending on model configurations, the 2017 BMW M240i can go from standstill to 62 mph in about 4.4 seconds to 4.8 seconds. It attains a top speed of 155 mph.

To ensure that the new M240i delivers a sporty driving experience, BMW has given the vehicle an M Sport suspension lowered by 10 mm, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels with an exclusive double-spoke design, the M Sport braking system, and Variable Sports Steering. The exterior also features the M aerodynamic package with exterior mirror caps in a metallic Ferric Grey color. Inside, the sporty theme continues with the M leather steering wheel, the M driver's footrest and sports seats in cloth or Alcatara, both with blue contrast stitching.

The 2017 BMW M240i will arrive this July 2016. Pricing and other technical information will be released at a later date.
