2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport releasing this summer for $66,445

(Chevrolet)Chevrolet will also release the Grand Sport Collector Edition later in the model year.

Chevrolet has introduced the newest model joining the Corvette lineup — the 2017 Grand Sport. The race car features design cues inspired by the original 1963 Grand Sport race car but enhanced with today's latest automotive technologies to provide an impressive driving experience.

"The racing DNA of the original Grand Sport race cars is in the 2017 model, adding greater dimensions of capability and driver involvement to the Corvette's award-winning architecture, for a purer driving experience. It is a worthy successor to the spirit of the originals," said Harlan Charles, product marketing manager for Corvette.

The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport was built using a lightweight architecture with track-focused components, specifically with its chassis and suspension. Under the hood, it is powered by a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine that delivers 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft. of torque. The engine comes standard with the seven-speed manual transmission but can also be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The Grand Sport race car can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

In terms of design, the all-new Grand Sport comes with unique front fender inserts and a Z06-inspired front grille with enhanced cooling intakes. The fenders and rear quarter panels were also widened for a greater track.

The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport will have numerous exterior and interior color options including the new colors for 2017 — Admiral Blue Metallic, Watkins Glen Gray Metallic, Black Rose Metallic, and Sterling Blue Metallic.

Chevrolet is also offering customers with a wide variety of packages that will further personalize the Grand Sport according to the preferences of its driver.

Customers can avail of the Z07 performance package to further enhance their sports car. The Z07 package comes with increased cornering ability, Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, and Michelin Sport Cup 2 summer tires.

Meanwhile, the Heritage package gives the race car hash-mark fender exterior graphics, hash-mark interior details with brushed aluminum trims, full-length stripes in five colors, and five wheel choices.

The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport will go on sale this summer. Prices start at $66,445 for the coupe and $70,445 for the convertible. Later in the year, Chevrolet will also release the Grand Sport Collector Edition.
