2017 Ford Explorer news: customers have more options with the XLT Sport Appearance Package

Ford has given its customers more options with the arrival of the XLT Sport Appearance Package for the 2017 Explorer SUV. With the addition of the XLT Sport Appearance Package, customers now have six options including the base model, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum editions.

"Our Sport Appearance philosophy is rooted in the fact that we know exterior appearance is the No. 1 consideration in SUV purchase decisions. The XLT Sport Appearance Package is a dramatic offering that gives customers another attractive option," said Omar Odeh, Explorer brand marketing manager.

In terms of design, the full-size SUV's front grille, mirror caps, rear applique and 20-inch alloy wheels will come in Magnetic Grey. The body side cladding gets an Ebony Black treatment along with the black roof rack. The XLT Sport Appearance Package also gets an Explorer hood badge.

Inside, the XLT Sport Appearance Package gives the Explorer Dark Earth Grey leather front seats with premium outer bolsters by Salerno. Dark Earth Grey Miko suede and Umber also provide accents for the cabin. The SUV also comes with Explorer-badged floor mats.

The SUV will come standard with XLT features like Intelligent Access with push-button start, the SYNC 3 infotainment system, 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support and LED foglamps.

The 2017 Ford Explorer equipped with the XLT Sport Appearance Package will be powered by the 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and can be availed with an all-wheel drive system.

The XLT Sport Appearance Package will be on display for the first time at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. More information including pricing will be announced at the convention.

The XLT Sport Appearance Package will be available to purchase for the 2017 Ford Explorer starting Summer 2016. Starting Spring 2016, Ford has also announced that the Sport Appearance Package will be arriving to the 2017 Ford Escape.
