Ford has introduced the 2017 Fusion Energi — a plug-in hybrid that is able to deliver 610 miles of driving range on a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery. The 2017 Ford Fusion Energi delivers the highest combined driving range compared to other hybrids in the market.

"Plug-in hybrids are electric vehicles until you run down the battery then they work exactly like a conventional hybrid. Fusion Energi — with a full battery and a full tank of gas — can go from San Diego, through Los Angeles and all the way up to San Francisco, and still have up to 110 mile of range remaining," said Wade Jackson, marketing manager for Ford Fusion.

During the start of any journey, the 2017 Ford Fusion will run on all-electric mode for about 21 miles. Then, it will run another mile using both the battery and the gas engine. After the battery is depleted, the Ford Energi will still deliver an additional 588 miles via the gas engine. The car's EPA-estimated range is 43 mpg for city driving, 41 mpg for highway driving, and 42 mpg for combined driving.

To deliver this kind of performance, Ford improved the car's hybrid powertrain software. Regenerative braking, responsible for recycling the battery's energy while braking, was also enhanced.

According to Ford, the 2017 Fusion Energi is an ideal option for drivers who do not live near or visit places without electric-vehicle charging stations. They can still drive an emission-free vehicle, but once the battery is depleted, they will still be able to travel to and from places.

The 2017 Ford Fusion Energi is available in three trims — SE, Titanium, and Platinum.

The Fusion Energi SE comes standard with SiriusXM Satellite Radio, leather front seats with heating, and the SYNC infotainment system. Meanwhile, the Fusion Energi Titanium comes with ambient lighting, a rear spoiler, HD Radio, and the 12-speaker Sony Audio System. Finally, the Platinum trim comes with a premium sport front grill with a unique color, leather-wrapped instrument panel with accent stitching, and the Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert.
