The 2017 Kia Sportage already made its world debut last September but it wasn't until last week that the sporty crossover made its North American debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The fourth-generation crossover has been given a new premium look with sharp and chiseled edges. To know more about the all-new crossover's design, click here for a detailed review.

Kia has unveiled the powertrain details for the 2017 model headed to the U.S. next year. There will be two powertrain options that will be available as a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed Sportmatic automatic transmission.

The first powertrain option is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft.

The 2017 Kia Sportage actually has less power outputs compared to its predecessor. However, according to Kia, the changes in power output were the result of improving the crossover's fuel efficiency.

Kia also modified the upcoming crossover's suspension setup. The front suspension was redesigned for a more precise handling. The rear suspension, on the other hand, was given dual-member shock absorbers and a dual lower-arm multilink setup. Furthermore, Kia also mounted the steering box father down the axle for better weight distribution. With 25 percent less friction, steering inputs have become smoother and more precise. It also has a better feel.

The 2017 Kia Sportage will be offered in three trims.

The base LX trim comes with a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, audio streaming and satellite radio. It also has a rear-camera display. The Sportage LX will be powered by the 2.4-liter engine.

The next trim is the EX, which is powered by the same engine as the LX. The mid-tier trim comes with the all-new 7-inch UVO3 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 8 GB of music storage and Wi-Fi tethering capability. The crossover's interiors also get leather upholstery.

The top-tier SX Turbo trim is powered by the 2.0-liter engine. It comes with an 8-inch UVO3 infotainment system with navigation.

The SX Turbo also features a sportier and more athletic design. It comes with Kia's new "ice cube" LED fog lamps, HID headlamps, LED taillights, a satin exterior trim, metal-looking skid plates and 19-inch alloy wheels. The SX Turbo also features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and piano black interiors. The SX Turbo also gets firmer shock absorbers for sharper car handling.

All three trims come standard with a 160-watt audio system but it can be upgraded to a more powerful 320-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system with eight speakers, a subwoofer, an external amplifier and the Claro-FitMx music restoration technology.

The 2017 Kia Sportage will go on sale next year. Pricing information and other technical details will be revealed closer to its official launch.
