Academy Awards 2016 news: Tina Fey tipped to host upcoming 88th Academy Awards

The 88th Annual Academy Awards is still more than half a year away but talk about who would have the honor of hosting the prestigious event can already be found online.

While the schedule for the yearly event has been released, unfortunately, there is still no announcement on who the host would be. Despite the delay in confirmation, some names have been thrown into the mix and they are, if not, very interesting.

Last year, Neil Patrick Harris from "How I Met Your Mother" fame hosted the event. The actor was no stranger to hosting award shows, having been tapped as the master of ceremonies twice for both the Tony Awards and the Primetime Emmys. "Birdman" ultimately bagged the well-coveted Best Picture award, while newcomer, Eddie Redmayne, won the Best Actor award for "The Theory of Everything." Julianne Moore also took home the Best Actress award for "Still Alice."

Because of the success of 2013's live telecast, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were tapped to produce last year's event. However, it was announced earlier this year through Twitter that the duo would no longer be involved with the production of the upcoming show.

"ending 3 year deal producing #Oscars, its an honor to say "We'd like to thank The Academy" @TheAcademy @craigzadan," read Meron's tweet.

While there is definitely clamor to fill the big shoes Zadan and Meron left, the Academy is also on the look out to find the 88th award show's host. Among those speculated to participate are veteran actor, Tom Hanks, and seasoned comedians, Steve Martin and Martin Short. The front runner, however, is "Saturday Night Live" alum, Tina Fey.

Fey, along with best friend Amy Poehler, have hosted the Golden Globes for three years and their hosting stints were nothing but a massive success. Naturally, the Academy took heed and they seem to be extremely interested in asking Fey to host the upcoming Oscars. The comedian, however, seems to be uninterested in hosting, claiming that she would do a better job producing the event.

"I don't want to host the Oscars, but someday I'd produce the Oscars. I feel like I could bring it in to time, and that's the only thing I have to offer. I feel like I could make the necessary cuts for it to be the right length. So I would do that."

The 88th Academy Awards would air on Feb. 28, 2015.
