'Agent Carter' season 3 renewal update: Show needs a network in order to continue according to Marvel

(Facebook / Agent Carter)Hayley Atwell said she is still looking forward to playing Peggy Carter both in the TV series and movie, "Agent Carter."

Fans of the series "Agent Carter" are saddened by the show's cancellation. A petition was made for the show to be renewed for a third season; however, Netflix has many shows already lined up. Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb expressed willingness to go on with the show, but he also said a network should want to air the show first.

Loeb told TVLine, "Marvel's small-screen division cannot simply greenlight a project without first knowing where it will play." Marvel is also doing its part in looking for a channel saying, "What Marvel Television does every day is it connects with our partners — ABC, FX, Fox, Netflix, Freeform — and they tell us when they would like it."

"Agent Carter" lead actress Hayley Atwell has earlier expressed her eagerness to play the role again. The cancellation of the show was announced during the ABC panel at the Television Critics Association press tour. Atwell was also at the event for the series "Conviction" wherein after the panel, she spoke with the reporters.

When asked what she feels about "Agent Carter" she said, "It's still a much-loved show for the people involved in the making of it and we know that the fans, it has a special place in their hearts. That's something that I would be very happy to go back to if the opportunity came."

Atwell also played Peggy Carter on the big screen; in fact, her character started with "Captain America" movies. The latest installation "Captain America: Civil War" featured the death of her character. She was Steven Rogers' (Chris Evans) love interest before he became Captain America. She is also one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is a big part of the Marvel Universe.

Atwell has also expressed interest in reprising the role for a standalone movie. She remains positive that someday she will get to play Peggy Carter again saying, "I don't feel like I've said goodbye to her because she does still seem to live on a lot for a lot of the fans."
