New casting rumors in the upcoming "American Horror Story" season 6 reveal that actress Connie Britton will be joining the American anthology horror series. This news sprung after the recent cancellation of Britton's latest TV project, "Nashville."

Last week, fans of the country musical drama "Nashville" were saddened by the cancellation of the show. Although its first season started out strong in numbers, its current season has been getting an average rating of 1.8 in adults 18–49 years old with a total viewership of 6.7 million. For the past months, it usually ends at the third spot among the shows that air at the 10 p.m. slot. Its performance might not be that bad to other networks, but it's something that ABC network can't put its money on.

Britton made a good impression when she starred in the first season of "American Horror Story." Her exceptional performance as the tormented Vivien Harmon even earned her an Emmy nomination. In the wake of "Nashville's" cancellation, the rumor mill speculates that she might be returning to the horror series next season.

The actress also expressed her interest to return to the show during a Television Academy panel for women of the show that was held last March. An executive TV editor for Variety asked the actress if she's interested in making a comeback on the show. "Of course, I would," she said without hesitation.

Britton, however, admitted that her return would also pose a challenge to her schedule. She also shared why she took the role in "American Horror Story" season 1. "The thing that [co-creator Ryan Murphy] said to me was, 'You can take my word for it that you will not be doing anything that you've been doing for the last five years on this show,'" Britton said.

"American Horror Story" is expected to return on FX for its sixth season this fall.
