Apple iPad Mini 5 release date, news & update: May be launched as iPad Pro Mini in Q1 of 2017

(Apple)A successor to the iPad Mini 4 (shown) may be launched next year, though it may not be known as the iPad Mini 5.

Apple remains tight-lipped about the release of the upcoming iPad Mini 5; however, rumor has it that the iPad Mini series will be canceled and relaunched under the iPad Pro family, calling it the iPad Pro Mini.

According to reports, the iPad Mini 5 may be placed under the iPad Pro family and will be launched as the iPad Pro Mini. As for its date of release, no announcement has been made by the tech giant yet, but it could come out in the first quarter of 2017, along with the iPad Pro 2 update.

Rumors on the iPad Pro Mini launch came from the pattern that Apple recently showed in its laptop line. In the recent launching of the MacBook Pro, it can be noted that the Cupertino-based company is focusing on the Pro line. No announcement was even given to the MacBook Air.

As for its specs, there are speculations that the upcoming iPad Mini 5 or iPad Pro Mini will eliminate the 3.5-mm headphone jack, just like the new iPhone 7. As a replacement, it will be adding the USB Type-C port.

Under the hood, the Mini 5 may also come with 2 GB of RAM, paired with 13–128 GB of internal storage variants. It could even run on the upcoming Apple iOS 11, which is expected to roll out next year. Plus, it could also be powered by an A10 processing chip.

As for its design, it is speculated that the iPad Mini 5 will sport an even thinner look at just 5 mm. The material that the tablet will be using could even be a better 7000 series aluminum. The mini tablet could even add the iPad Pro models' Smart Connector feature at the lefthand edge, which can be used as a port for data, power, and external keyboard.

More details on the Apple iPad Mini Pro may soon be revealed.
