'Apple Watch 2' release date with bigger battery alongside iPhone 7? what to expect

(REUTERS/BECK DIEFENBACH)The Apple Watch 2 will reportedly have a longer battery life.

Gadget enthusiasts have been talking about the Apple Watch 2, especially as an alleged photo of the device's battery surfaced online.

There have been reports that a photo of the alleged Apple Watch 2's battery had been seen on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site. According to reports, the photo shows a 334 mAh lithium-ion battery and has been pegged to be capable of extending the battery life of the device. It is allegedly for the 42-mm model. As of now, the Apple Watch is using a 246 mAh battery, so not only would the Apple Watch 2 be getting a 35.7 percent larger battery, it might also have an extended battery life. However, there are no conclusive reports on what other improvements this new battery will bring.

It should be pointed out that the authenticity of the photos can't be verified conclusively, although Macrumors reported that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities had said that the Apple Watch 2 will come with a higher-capacity battery. The new battery would reportedly last longer that the 18 hours that the current model has.

Aside from a larger battery and longer runtime, the Apple Watch 2 will reportedly also have a GPS, barometer, better waterproofing, and a faster TSMC processor. However, it still won't have cellular capabilities. The new model will allegedly retain the 38-mm and 42-mm screen sizes.

An improved battery life is certainly good use for Apple Watch wearers and would further boost the appeal and sales of the device. Not only would a better battery mean less charging time, it could also mean that the smartwatch's other components would also be getting a boost. It might even mean that the company could come up with a thinner screen.

Apple is said to be rolling out the Apple Watch 2 before the year ends. Perhaps the device would be unveiled during the company's September event, so consumers should sit tight and wait.
