Apple Watch 2 release date news: Price slash stirs rumors of 2nd-generation Apple Watch

As the current Apple Watch is offered at a new discounted price, speculations that its upgraded version, the Apple Watch 2, is seeing a release soon have started to surface.

According to reports, Apple's smartwatch is being offered at a discounted price with as much as $200 slashed from its original. However, this is not the first time that the Apple Watch has lured gadget fanatics with its lower price tag as the device was also offered at a $50 discount in March, wherein the original price of $349 of its Apple Watch Sports variant was reduced to $299.

The current price slash at Best Buy, on the other hand, offers the 38-mm variant starting at a $349 price tag, whereas the 42-mm variant carries a price tag starting at $399.

However, as the device was already offered at a discounted price earlier this year, which also gave rise to speculations that Apple Watch 2 was at hand, the new discounted prices of the current Apple Watch cannot be the basis for claiming that a second-generation Apple Watch is just lurking within the corner.

Nonetheless, there are claims that Apple Watch 2 may find its way in the market shelves within the year. Digitimes reported that Apple has sped up the procurement process of the chips and other components for its anticipated Apple Watch 2. Allegedly, the chips and other components for the upcoming Apple Watch 2 will start arriving in the third quarter of the year.

Sources of the technology-related online publication said that orders for the upcoming Apple device are surprising as they are higher than what the company has expected. The same sources revealed that basing on the numbers of the pre-orders, around 2 million units of the device can be shipped monthly once it is released later this year. This is despite the fact that the sales of the current Apple Watch have been a source of disappointment for the company.
