Apple Watch S has minimal design changes but upgraded processor

(Apple)Apple Watch S could arrive in March to refresh the lineup

Analysts who are familiar with all things related to Apple and its devices have been predicting that the company has an event in March and it will see the arrival of the Apple Watch S. As for the details about the Apple Watch S, not much is known but many are certain it won't be a second generation device.

The Apple Watch arrived last year and it is safe to say that it turned out to be pretty popular. It even went on to overshadow Android Wear devices in terms of sales. Now, ZDNet states that Gene Munster, who works as an analyst for Piper Jaffray, has indicated in a research note that the device will be called the Apple Watch S. Importantly, the name chosen for the device points towards Apple following the naming convention it has on the iPhone with devices in alternate years bearing either the iPhone 5s or iPhone 6s name tag.

Munster also pointed towards the "S" version of the Apple Watch coming with a similar design to the first edition but it will have a better processor and battery. Also, he appeared to indicate that new bands will make an appearance but the upcoming watch is not expected to have wireless radio, which will allow it to work independent from a paired iPhone. If it is indeed true that the Apple Watch S will make an appearance in March, it is likely that Apple has adopted a yearly update formula for the wearable and another device will not be released later in the year, which, until now, was thought to be the Apple Watch 2.

Models with "S" updates are generally considered to be incremental updates from the company and usually big changes in the smartphone lineup are saved for the subsequent year. If this is the case with the Apple Watch, it is likely that it will have more bands, including those from Hermes, but the rumors of a FaceTime camera being included will only happen next year.
