The smartwatch that captured the attention of all tech enthusiasts this year was the Apple Watch, but one of the firsts to make their mark in the market was the Asus ZenWatch. Here is how these two smartwatches compare.

Design

The Apple Watch comes in a variety of options. First, it comes in two sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm. Second, it comes in three lines: the cheapest is the Apple Watch Sport, the mid-range is the Apple Watch and the most expensive is the Apple Watch Edition. Each of these lines make use of different materials for the watch. The Apple Watch Sport is crafted from aluminum, the Apple Watch features stainless steel and the Apple Watch Edition is made of solid yellow or rose gold. The Apple Watch also offers a wide range of straps ranging from Fluoroelastomer in various colors to leather and stainless steel.

The ZenWatch, on the other hand, provides very little in terms of options to customers. But it has a premium rectangular stainless steel body and a rose gold colored trim running along its edge. The device comes with a default leather strap, which can be easily swapped out with other standard 22 mm straps available.

In terms of waterproofing, the Apple Watch has an IPX7 rating, which means it can only withstand splashes of water. The same holds true for the ZenWatch, which has an IP55 rating.

Display

The ZenWatch has an AMOLED display, which measures 1.63 inches. It has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels and a density of 278 pixels per inch. The 38 mm Apple Watch has a display measuring 1.32 inches with a resolution of 272 x 340 pixels and a density of 290 pixels per inch, while the 42 mm version has a 1.5 inch display with a resolution of 312 x 390 pixels and a density of 302 pixels per inch.

Specs

The Apple Watch comes with the S1 chip and has 8 GB of on board storage while the ZenWatch has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz along with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB storage.

Sensors

The sensors on the ZenWatch include a heart rate sensor and a 9-axis bio sensor. As for the Apple Watch, it comes with a heart rate sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope.

Software

The ZenWatch runs on Android Wear, which allows it to easily be paired with other Android devices while the Apple Watch runs on the Watch OS and can only be paired with devices from Apple.

Price

The price of the Apple Watch starts at $350 and goes as high as $17,000. The ZenWatch costs $200.
