When it comes to the theaterical adaptations of their comics, Marvel has undoubtedly held the reigns in the last few years. However, with the impending debut of what is slated to be a blockbuster hit 'Batman VS Superman,' DC Comics, which has been lagging behind so far, seems to be finally catching up. Apparently,  the 2016 release is only the beginning, as reports claim that the upcoming DC movie is a spring board for the debut of a few more famous DC characters – one of which is, Aquaman.

According to a report in Christian Today, Aquaman, which debuted more than 70 years ago in 1941, is one of the comic book company's first superheroes. Despite having existed in the DC Universe for seven decades, it was only last year, precisely speaking, August 2014, that Marvel confirmed that a film adaptation is in development.

Recently, it was announced that the actor Jason Momoa will be playing the role of 'Aquaman.' Momoa, who is best known for playing the brute KhalDrogo in the HBO hit series 'Game of Thrones,' is a clear choice for the role, especially considering his impressive physique. The actor has since revealed several details about the upcoming project and, according to him, gone are the dandy days of 'Aquaman.'

During a recent interview, Momoa revealed details about his costume. According to the actor, while the costume has the iconic green and orange, this project would see a grittier Aquaman.

Momoa said, "Well, there might be some bit of orange and green. A bit of respect to prior work, but I think he is meaner now and upset – look at what has been done to our oceans. That's his world that has been polluted."

DC has since released promotional images of Momoa in full 'Aquaman' gear; and based solely on what has been made available, fans of the franchise should prepare themselves for an entirely different 'Aquaman.'

'Aquaman' will be featured on the upcoming 'Batman v Superman' as well. His solo film, on the other hand, will premiere on July 27, 2018.
