Arrow season 3 spoilers: Black Canary returns, will Oliver survive in new episodes?

The mid-season finale of Arrow left many fans in shock after what Ra's al Ghu did to the show's hero, and viewers will have to wait until next year to see if Oliver survived the seemingly fatal fall.

In the last episode of Arrow called "The Climb," Oliver took the fall for his sister Thea's crime, after finding out that it was Thea who killed Sara when Malcom Merlyn asked her to. Malcom admitted that he drugged his own daughter so she wouldn't remember what happened. This is the reason why Oliver took that trip to Nada Parbat to face Ra's on his own turf in the eastern mountains. This led to a battle and Oliver took it on without any help from the members of his team.

Though Oliver is known to be quick and agile, Ra's ended up the more dangerous opponent as he struck his sword deep into the hero's chest. As if the blow isn't enough, Ghul pushed Oliver off the edge of a cliff, sending a message that The Arrow and Oliver Queen has finally met his demise. Several recap news have already called the death of Oliver Queen, especially when the actor who plays Arrow posted a message on his Twitter account apparently confirming the death. "It was a good run," wrote Stephen Amell on Tuesday night after the episode aired.

Those who have been following the comic have faith that the hero will survive because of the Lazarus Pit. Fans will have to wait until January to find out if the hero of Starling City survives, or if there will be a replacement.

Meanwhile, show runner Marc Guggenheim revealed a few details about what will happen in the remainder of season 3, including Laurel's transformation as the Black Canary.

"The one thing I want to clarify -- and I don't know how this happened -- it got out there in the ether that we were doing a Black Canary arc," said Guggenheim to Comic Book Resources.

"That's not really the case. In episodes 10, 11 and 12, there's some pretty huge growth for Laurel and big steps taken on the road to becoming the Black Canary. That said, it's not the Black Canary show. I'd say episode 10 is all about Team Arrow and dealing with the ramifications and the aftershocks of 309," added Guggenheim.

Arrow will return to CW on January 21.
