'Arrow' Season 3 promises additional DC heroes on the roster, and reports are suggesting that Brandon Routh, the actor who previously played Superman in 2006's 'Superman Returns,' will be returning as a superhero, although this time it will be on the small screen.

Arrow's roster of DC characters is expanding, as producers have tapped Brandon Routh to play Atom. Routh will play Ray Palmer, a.k.a. Atom, a scientist whose inventions will play a huge part in the lives of series' leads Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak.

Routh will have a recurring role in 16 episodes, making him a vital part of the Arrow Season 3.

Reports are also suggesting that Atom, Routh's character, will serve as Felicity Smoak's love interest as he dabbles and becomes involved in the Queen Consolidated's Applied Sciences Division.

Playing Atom in Arrow will be Brandon Routh's second time performing a DC character, with his first stint as the widely-popular Superman in Superman Returns, directed by Bryan Singer.

Back then, in the 2006 Superman flick, Routh starred with Hollywood bigwigs such as Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Frank Langella, Parker Posey and Sam Huntington.

Superman Returns generated $200,069,408 in box office sales (as of October 2007).

Routh is not the only one joining the cast of Arrow Season 3. Model and "Fast and Furious" actress Devon Aoki is set to play Katana, with Karl Yune as Maseo Yamashiro, Katana's husband. Peter Stormare will also be present in Season 3 as Count Vertigo.
