'Arrow' Season 3: finale sees Oliver abandon Arrow identity and elope with Felicity; Will status quo continue in Season 4?

(CW)

Season three of "Arrow" is finally over, following a jam packed season finale entitled "My Name is Oliver Queen". As far as finales go, the episode delivered quite a cliffhanger, with Oliver abandoning his Arrow identity in the end, as he rides off into the sunset with Felicity. Whether this new status quo will carry over into the upcoming fourth season remains to be seen, but it should be interesting to see how things play out as the new season unfolds.

While the ending of season three was satisfying enough, there are some issues that the "Arrow" team could certainly improve upon in the next few seasons. With the rapid emergence of the "Arrow" spin-off 'The Flash', it remains to be seen how the development team will handle the power disparity between Oliver Queen and Barry Allen. Barry, of course, makes a brief appearance in Arrow's aforementioned season finale, where he quickly dispatches a group of enemies, thus clearing the way for Oliver and company. It's difficult to imagine how a speedster like Barry and a regular human like Oliver can co-exist while still retaining the show's semi-serious take on superheroes.

Aside from "The Flash", two more shows will be added to the DC television universe in the form of "Legends of Tomorrow" and potentially "Supergirl". "Legends of Tomorrow" is another spin-off from "Arrow" and 'The Flash" and so it shouldn't be too difficult to incorporate it into series-wide crossovers. But as with all things that grow in scope, it becomes more and more complex to juggle everything around while still providing the same level of quality expected from a show.

Whatever the case, it seems that season four of "Arrow" will have plenty in store for viewers, with the new status quo established from the season finale being carried forward, as well as the new dynamics between Oliver Queen and the rest of the DC universe superheroes. An exact release date is yet to be revealed for season four, but an announcement should be made in the coming months.
