Motorola announced the Moto X Play recently and it has since gained the attention of many tech enthusiasts. However, there are still a number of devices that are worth mentioning and one of them is the Asus ZenFone 2. Here is how the two compare.

Design

In terms of design, the Moto X Play has an advantage as it has a metal frame and can be customized extensively on the Moto Maker website. On the website, they can pick from different colored metal accents and back panels created from wood, silicone and leather. As for the ZenFone 2, it has no customization options. It only has a plastic body, however, it comes with a metallic sheen which makes it look like a premium device. It comes in five colors, gray, black, gold, red and white.

Display

The display of the two devices are quite similar as both have 5.5-inch screens. On the Moto X Play is a capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch while the ZenFone 2 has an IPS capacitive screen with a similar resolution and a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Specs

As for specs, the ZenFone 2 is ahead as it has two models, one with 2 GB of RAM and another with 4 GB. In the model with 4 GB of RAM is an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset and a CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. As for the Moto X Play, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four clocked at1.0 GHz along with an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The memory slot on the ZenFone 2 can only support up to 64 GB of external storage. There is a better version on its competitor which supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the Moto X Play trails with 2 GB, as the ZenFone 2 has 4 GB.

Battery

This category is where the Moto X Play has an advantage as it has a huge 3630 mAh battery. The ZenFone 2 has a 3000 mAh version.

Price

The Motorola Moto X Play could be sold at around $300, unlocked while the unlocked Asus ZenFone 2 costs $300 on retail websites.
