ASUS Zenfone 3 release date, specs, rumors: Smartphone certified by TENAA has quad-core chip, 8-MP camera and runs on Android Lollipop

A new, unannounced, ASUS smartphone believed to be the Zenfone 3, has been spotted on China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Centre website (TENAA), the equivalent of the US FCC, along with its key specifications.

Following the launch of the much-hyped Zenfone 2, there have rumors about ASUS working on the ZenFone 3, which has been speculated to come with fingerprint recognition as well as biometric scanning technology.

A Zenfone model has now been spotted in the Chinese TENAA database with the number ASUS Z00EDB, indicating that it could be the Zenfone 3. According to the details of the handset provided on the TENAA website, the new Asus smartphone with a metal build measures 143.7 x 71.5 x 10.66 millimeters (5.66 x 2.81 x 0.42 inches) and weighs 145 grams. The device features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 screen pixels and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 is listed to be powered by an unnamed 1.2 GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU, paired with Mali GPU and LPDDR3 2 GB RAM. The upcoming flagship offers 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32 GB through a microSD card slot. The ZenFone 3 is shown having two cameras: a rear 8 MP shooter with low-light image, LED flash and HDR mode, and a front 5 MP selfie snapper. The ZenFone 3 comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop preinstalled and offers various connectivity options, including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 3G. The ASUS ZenFone 3 is listed on TENAA as a dual-SIM handset and available in seven colors - silver, gold, purple, blue, red, white and black.

ASUS had unveiled the ZenFone 2 flagship back at CES 2015 and is likely to launch the ZenFone 3 at CES 2016. As of now, there are no details available about the pricing and availability of the ASUS ZenFone 3, but stay tuned for the latest news and rumors related to the upcoming device.
