Asus might have a number of budget smartphones in its lineup, but its wearable devices, especially its smartwatch range, have also started to gain traction. And now, with the release of the Asus ZenWatch 2 in the run up to the IFA 2015, Asus has provided a cheaper and stylish alternative to the costlier Apple Watch.

The release of the Asus ZenWatch 2 did not surprise many, as the company had already unveiled the device earlier in June at Computex. Reporting on the release during the IFA 2015, The Verge states that the pricing of the smartwatch is going to be its main selling point but its attractive features will also ensure that it emerges as one of the top Android Wear devices.

As for the device's sizes, Asus seems to have taken pointers from Apple, as the ZenWatch 2 also comes in two versions. One has a 1.45-inch display with a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels while the other has a bigger 1.63-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. Additionally, the AMOLED display on the device has been reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 cover lens which has a 2.5D curve.

There are three colors options for the steel body; it comes in silver, rose gold and gunmetal gray, and there are 18 different straps available for the device created from a variety of materials such as steel, leather and rubber.

With an Android Wear OS, the ZenWatch 2 can be paired with both Android and iOS devices. As for its hardware, its consists of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz along with 512 MB of  RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. There are also cameras on the front and back of the watch. Furthermore, in addition to the default watch faces that are included, users will also be able to create their own design for their smartwatch.

The larger Asus ZenWatch 2 will be priced at $170, while the smaller version will have a steeper price tag of $190. It is expected to hit stores in October.
