'Avatar 2' speculations: Release date still uncertain?

Although it was announced early this year that "Avatar 2" will be shown before 2017 ends, nothing has been heard about the movie's production, prompting fans to speculate that they may have to wait much longer.

Delay in director James Cameron's projects is nothing new as he is known to be someone who is not willing to compromise the outcome of his films. After his very successful movie "Titanic" was released in 1997, he dedicated most of the years that followed in creating the first "Avatar" movie.

"Avatar" was released in 2009 and was the only movie to top the blockbuster success of "Titanic." As per Box Office Mojo records, the two movies still hold the record for being the highest grossing films of all time, followed by director J.J. Abrams' recent box office record shaker, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

The making of "Titanic" made use of that time's latest technology but Cameron managed to outdo himself with the technology used in filming "Avatar."

"Avatar" started development even before "Titanic" was shown and was originally slated to be released in 1999. However, Cameron had a vision and technology then did not allow his vision to be fulfilled. Cameron is hands-on with the project as he was also the producer, writer and co-editor of the said film.

This could be the same attitude the director-producer has in the making of its sequel, "Avatar 2." So far, it was made known three sequels will be simultaneously shot to be released one year after the other. In an interview with ABC's Nightlife, Cameron has revealed that the story takes place in the oceans of Pandora. He expressed excitement over exploring the ecosystem of Pandora and how he wants the whole film to be as visually satisfying or even more than the first one.

20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos seems to share and support Cameron's vision of the three films as he answered, "Jim Cameron has his own pace," when asked about the movie's development. Variety shared the CEO's answers while at a conference in New York.

Those who know how the director works would agree that his projects are worth the wait yet moviegoers continue to hope that statements about the premiere would be released soon.
