'Avatar 2' trailer, plot: Na'vi character similar to Zoe Saldana's Neytiri seen in unfinished concept art

The sequel to James Cameron's epic "Avatar" is still years away from being released, which also means that fans will also have to wait years before they can even hope for a trailer or some set photo from "Avatar 2." But producer Jon Landau knows that fans still need to be fed even just bits and pieces of information to satisfy their curiosities. And he did so by posting what seems to be a still unfinished concept art for "Avatar 2."

Fans were surprised when the producer shared this first look at the Na'vi on his personal Twitter account. The concept sketch seems to resemble Zoe Saldana's character, but it's possible that fans are getting their first glimpse at a new character. Or it could turn out to be Saldana's Neytiri after all.

It's been six years since the release of "Avatar" and there's still no details yet regarding the sequel's story line. It amazingly didn't generate any rumors or spoilers the way films like "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" did, making it a testament to Cameron's secretiveness. But what is known is that Cameron will be helming the movie and that the sequel will focus on an alleged "spiritual journey." But whether that journey is Sully's or Neytiri's is a big secret.

The sequel was initially pegged to be released in November 2016, but it was later pushed back to Christmas 2017. Fans are worried that it might be delayed again, given Cameron's penchant for delaying his projects until he's sure he will get them right. While it's frustrating, it has resulted in such classics like "Titanic" and the original "Avatar." However, 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos has assured fans there will be no more delays.

Gianopulos is still confident that "Avatar 2" will be ready by the 2017 Christmas holiday season and that "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" will be released in 2018 and 2019 as expected.
