'Avatar 2' upate: James Cameron confirms three comic book series sequels; says comic books will explore 'past, present, and future'

News about the sequel to the 2009 sci-fi hit "Avatar" have been scant recently. And understandably so, given it won't be releasing for another two years. But for fans who have been eagerly awaiting updates, they may just have the next best thing: a comic book series revolving around the sequel's plot.

In a previous article where we reported that "Avatar 2" will definitely bring back Stephen Lang as Col. Miles Quaritch in a Terminator-Darth Vader villain fashion, it was also briefly mentioned that Dark Horse is releasing a new "Avatar" comic book. Now, more details about the said series have come out.

James Cameron, the director of the original "Avatar" and also most likely all the following sequels, has talked about the said series in a video posted by the Dark Horse Comics YouTube. He obviously didn't dish out much but he did say that the Pandora ecosystem will factor a lot in the comic books. He hinted that anyone who wishes to watch the film may want to pick up the comic book, too, given it builds up perfectly to "Avatar 2."

In the video, he says that the movies themselves will "reveal more of the mysteries and wonders of Pandora" then adds that even with those in production, his production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has so much tell about the Pandora Universe. Hence, the partnership. And in the want to explore all stories possible, the partnership will be going back to the events shown in the 2009 film then go to the events of the next three sequels.

"Fly with me and we look forward to welcoming you back to Pandora," end James Cameron.

This is not Cameron's first venture into comic book storytelling. He has partnered before with Dark Horse Comics on his other films, "Aliens" and "The Abyss."

"Avatar" is set to have three more sequels set for release yearly from 2017. No release date yet for the comic books.
