Following the recent wrap of "Awkward" season five, there's still no news about a renewal for the show. However, the showrunners recently hinted about a possible time jump in the story if MTV does decide to give the series another round.

In a recent interview with TV Line, showrunner Mike Chessler explained that season six will most likely explore different phases in the lives of the characters. "It would be a very different. We'd jump ahead in time again, and there have been conversations about having it in a different city with a different feel," he said.

Chessler further explained that another chapter would mean "a very different phase of [the characters' lives.]" The EP's statements may indicate that a sixth season will see the cast moving on with their lives either with one another or with different paths in life.

While EP Chris Alberghini believes that there are still too many plots untold and there should be more interesting lines to be delivered, MTV has not announced a renewal for the series. Alberghini clarified that "most of the cast is interested" in another installment, but unfortunately, they will have to wait for MTV's final word.

Meanwhile, fans are still eager to know what would happen next to Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty (Beau Mirchoff). Though the finale seemed to imply that they will push through with their romance, viewers seem to have been left with an cliffhanger. The Christian Times suggests that the plan for a time jump in season six could mean further exploration of Jenna and Matty's love story.

Carter Matt further adds that it would be interesting to see the cast in grown-up mode. A few years added to where they left off would mean life after college and according to the outlet, this would be the biggest challenge for the showrunners as taking a leap in time sometimes can be difficult.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on "Awkward" season six.
