'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' news: Scoot McNairy, of Argo, reportedly being lined up to play Jimmy Olsen

One major reason why fans are eagerly awaiting the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie is because of the actors rumored to have parts in the film, even if those parts are as tightly guarded as the gold in Fort Knox.

One example is Scoot McNairy. The actor is reportedly in the film and rumors were rife several months ago that he would be playing the role of Jimmy Olsen. According to Slashfilm, the "Argo" actor was seen wearing bright green socks on set, a clear indication that some CG work was to be done. The news was further bolstered when someone who claimed to have worked on the film as an extra said that McNairy's Olsen had a twist.

The source says "Jimmy was injured during the battle of Zod vs Superman. His legs where pinned under falling building rubble and that caused him to lose the legs." But even though the character reportedly uses two prosthetic legs, he "doesn't blame Superman for it" and actually feels grateful that the "Man of Steel" saved the world.

The news was not confirmed and the story seemed to have been discounted as just rumors; but Heroic Hollywood has claimed that what the source said is true.

The 37-year-old McNairy does have a courtroom scene in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer, but his very truncated appearance does not really give a hint as to who he is playing. However, the reports that he is Jimmy Olsen are feasible, and to some fans, it would even make a lot of sense as Olsen is a key figure in "Superman's" universe.

The fact that he still roots for the "Man of Steel" even though he lost his legs during Superman's fight with Zod could be used as a way to put a human face to Superman's supporters.

Despite the resurgence of the rumors and claims that it is the truth, fans will never be certain where McNairy really fits in the movie until it is released.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. The movie also stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred J. Pennyworth), Holly Hunter (Senator Finch), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent).
