BBC period drama "Call the Midwife" is currently airing its fifth season in the U.K. Though each season is short with only eight episodes, each episode is able to deliver compelling storylines that strike an emotional note with its viewers.

The recently aired second episode dealt with the then controversial issue of using formula milk. With the baby at risk of dehydration, Sister Evangelina realized her mistake and was able to rectify the situation.

Meanwhile, Barbara was caught in a very tough and emotional predicament when it was revealed that the husband of an expectant mother has leukemia and only has days to live. The patient begged for her baby to be induced so that her husband may be able to meet their child.

"Call the Midwife" is set to air its third episode next Sunday, Jan. 31. According to official episode synopsis from BBC, a typhoid outbreak will erupt at the hospital. Everyone is suspicious over who the carrier could be. The typhoid outbreak will also threaten to wreak havoc over a close knit family.

Meanwhile, Sister Winfred will be faced with a dilemma when pregnant patient's case goes against her moral code and beliefs. Said patient is a local teacher who had gotten pregnant by a married man. Sister Winfred will be surprised to see the local teacher taking matters into her own hands. The teacher's actions will lead Sister Winfred to reflect upon how her prejudices may have affected her treatment of the case.

Also in the upcoming episode, Barbara agrees to go out on a date with Tom but cannot feel at ease due to her concern for Trixie's reaction. Knowing Trixie's past demons and struggle with alcohol addiction, will she be able to cope with Barbara and Tom's blooming relationship?
