It's a baby girl as the first born of Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc Mezvinksy. On Saturday, former US president Bill Clinton's daughter gave birth to a healthy girl in New York.

Chelsea Clinton used her Facebook and Twitter account to share the exciting news to her friends and followers.

"Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky," Clinton wrote in her Twitter account.

New grandparents, the former US President and former Secretary of State, Bill and Hilary Clinton, expressed their excitement over the birth of their granddaughter.

"We are blessed, grateful, and so happy to be the grandparents of a beautiful girl, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky, born on Friday evening, September 26, 2014. We are thrilled to be with our daughter and her husband as they welcome their daughter into the world. Chelsea is well and glowing. Marc is bursting with pride. Charlotte's life is off to a good start," the political pair said via their website, Clintonfoundation.org.

Bill Clinton presented a speech via speaker phone to his proxy, Senator Mark Udall, during an event he cancelled on Saturday. He said that his growing family should be enough excuse for him to stay close to Chelsea and her new baby.

"I hope I get an excused absence," Clinton told the crowd, as reported by AOL.

"You all know my family just got a little bigger, and I figured I should stay home where I'm really needed."
