Chicago Bulls free agency, trade rumors 2016: Shooters no longer needed?

Outside shooting was thought to be a dilemma for the revamped Chicago Bulls ahead of the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season and that is why a few shooters were linked to them. However, a new long range gunner might no longer be needed as the stars they have on the roster have proven they are enough.

(Reuters/Kamil Krzaczynski/USA TODAY Sports)Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler (21) shoots against the New York Knicks during the first half at United Center.

In the Bulls' season opener versus the Boston Celtics, they showed that they have legitimate outside threats, and the guys not expected to make three-point bombs were the ones who did.

The Bulls hit 11-of-25 three-pointers in their 105-99 home win over the Celtics. Eight of those came from veteran superstar Dwyane Wade and face of the franchise Jimmy Butler. They had four each and both shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Joining the shooting party were Rajon Rondo, Nikola Mirotić and Michael Carter-Williams who all made one from three-point country.

Because of the splendid outing the Bulls had, mainly with their outside attempts, it seems like adding a shooter is now unnecessary for the squad.

Wade and Butler are the ones now trusted by head coach Fred Hoiberg to take these kinds of shots since it was seen versus the Celtics that they can hit them. Aside from the duo, there are also other guys in the team who are capable of succeeding in this aspect of the game.

Perhaps if the Bulls still decide to acquire one more shooter, it is just for them to better what is already a promising unit of court snipers.

The best available for now is Ray Allen who in the off-season was giving hints that he will return after a two-season hiatus. The 41-year-old remains a free agent and mentioned the teams he might play for in his comeback. Chicago was not included but him getting signed is possible.
