Chicago Bulls news: Butler and Bulls agree on new deal

It seems like things have worked out for Jimmy Butler and the Chicago Bulls as reports have claimed that they agreed to terms for a new contract.

The Bulls guard was one of the biggest names in the free agency as early talks with the Bulls management could not agree on a figure or length of time to keep Butler.

Reports surfaced early that the NBA's Most Improved Player wants a shorter contract that could help him get maximum money especially when the new salary cap hits in 2017 but the Bulls were not budging.

The 25-year-old did make it clear that he never really wanted to leave the Bulls. He just feels that he should get the money he believes he is worth and it appears now that the Chicago hierarchy finally agrees.

Butler and the Bulls have reportedly agreed on a five-year, $90 million maximum deal.

Chicago understands that if they did not make the deal for Butler then some other team will -- and given the breakout season that he enjoyed in the 2014-15 campaign, Butler's star continues to rise.

He made his first All-Star appearance last year and finished the season averaging a career high of 20.0 points per game.

Butler also had career bests in rebounds with 5.8 a night, while also dishing out 3.3 assists per game.

He has been the go-to guy while Derrick Rose was nursing his injury and still remained relevant even when Rose was back on the floor.

Butler is also a big guard who plays excellent defense and is never afraid to go up against the best players on the opposing end.

This deal maximizes his strengths as well, as it is understood that he will be given his player option in the fourth year of his contract, when he is well in his peak at 29 years old.

Butler's deal with the Bulls means that their core is still intact and they are still very much a threat in the Eastern Conference.
