'Chicago Fire' season 5 spoilers: Casey clears the slate with Susan

Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) will continue to work closely with Susan Weller (guest star Lauren Stamile) in the upcoming season of "Chicago Fire."

As per HNGN, the lieutenant will continue his work as alderman in the new installment. This will bring him in close contact with the beautiful political consultant. It is going to be awkward for the two, as Casey turned down Susan's offer to spend the night together while they were both out for a conference. Instead of going to her hotel room, he went straight to Dawson's (Monica Raymund) place and admitted he was still in love with her. It was a heartwarming scene for "Dawsey" fans as it took a while for the couple to come clean with their feelings.

Casey promised Dawson that he was not going anywhere and that he was done staying away from her. It is also expected that he will support her in raising her adopted son, Louie. Although Susan may be disappointed with Casey's choice, she can separate her personal and business life. At least, she will do it as support to the current alderman. Casey is also likely to clear the slate with her so there will not be any confusion.

Spencer recently discussed with The Hollywood Reporter what is next for his character. He said that although Casey would continue his work as a politician, it would not be a focal point in season 5.

"He's just going to stay an alderman. There was talk of Susan Weller, the political consultant, who was like, 'Well, you can be the mayor of Chicago.' (Laughs.) That would be hilarious, but yeah, I don't think that would fly. So we're not going to go any further with the career aspect of it but it's definitely going to be around," the actor said.

"Chicago Fire" season 5 is set to air its premiere episode on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 p.m. EST, but there have been rumors that NBC has postponed it until 2017.
