Voight's aggressive and dangerous side will be resurfacing as he hunts down those that have hurt his family. How far will the leader of "Chicago P.D." go for revenge?

The season finale of "Chicago P.D.'s" third season is touted to be intense and heartbreaking as a family member of one of their own is victimized. In episode 23, "Start Digging," Voight's team is shocked to learn that a widowed, single-mother found dead in the trunk of her car had been in constant communication with Voight's (Jason Beghe) son, Justin (Josh Segarra). The army vet is then found critically injured and attacked in the same manner as the first victim. With Voight out for revenge, Roman (Brian Geraghty) makes a difficult decision, while Commander Crowley (Barbara Eve Harris) reveals her plans for changes in the unit.

Longtime fans of the Chicago-based series will probably remember how frighteningly intense and aggressive Voight was when he was first introduced in "Chicago Fire." While it was revealed to be all an act as he was working undercover at the time, there's no telling what the hardened police office will do after the vicious attack on his son.

A trailer for "Chicago P.D.'s" season finale unfolds with a shot of Voight, his son, and the newest member of the family — Justin's baby. Voight is then shown having a quiet moment with his son and telling him that he's proud of him. All hell then breaks loose as Voight and his partner Lindsay (Sophia Bush) are seen pulling up to a car. They are shocked to find Justin in the trunk, tied up and unconscious. He's rushed to the hospital, with Voight demanding to know if his son is still breathing.

The trailer teases to "forget justice; revenge is all that matters" as a montage shows Voight on the warpath, the police storming homes and one man apparently being burned on the stove. The clip ends with Voight kissing his son in the hospital, and later, telling his boss that if they want to take him off the case, they would "have to put a bullet in my head."

Whether Voight will exact his vengeance on those responsible or if the changes that Commander Crowley will do means pulling him off the intelligence unit remains to be seen. But it has been reported that the fallout from this finale will continue into next season, so it's possible that the episode will end in a cliffhanger.

There's no word yet on when season 4 will be aired. But with the past 2 seasons premiering in September, there's a good chance the show will return in that time frame as well. Meanwhile, the final episode of "Chicago P.D." season 3 is set to air on May 25 at 10 p.m.
