A health fair at the headquarters of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland this week drew a "nice turnout" of 100 staff members who obtained general and personal information from health professionals.

The Health and Benefits Fair - attended by 100 staff members - was sponsored by the UCC's Human Resources office, Parish Nurse program, Community Life and The Pension Boards.

"We had a nice turnout," Alisa Lewis, the UCC's human resources director told UCC News. "The health professionals said there were a lot of interest employees asking questions."

Participants were given a quick health screening providing them with vital information that can help start to take control of their health such as such as blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index and blood sugar levels.

UCC parish nurse Lisa Thomas, who helped organize the event that offered screening and speakers, massages and messaging, was to help people understand what resources are available in the community.

Also available were foot and bone density screenings, HIV screenings and informational tables.

More than a dozen mini-seminars were offered with presentations on diabetes, smoking cessation, acupuncture, sleep disorders, exercise and employee benefits.

One employee said she didn't realize some benefits she is eligible for until she saw handouts with information.
