Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: Interest in DeMarcus Cousins reignited?

(Reuters/Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports)The Cleveland Cavaliers could again be eyeing Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins (15).

Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins was linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers a few times this off-season, and now, it looks like the team's rumored interest in him is again gathering steam.

Cousins was connected to the Cavaliers becuase they are believed to be needing a center to improve their defense. Besides this, some are also waiting on the reigning champions to add a big name this off-season after their rivals, the Golden State Warriors, inked 2014 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Durant.

The hype surrounding Cousins' potential move to Cleveland had already faded. But according to a report by Morning News USA, the 25-year-old's performance in the ongoing Rio Olympics could have resurrected the Cavs' desire to acquire him.

It was reported that the Cavaliers have already inquired about Cousins, although they walked away empty-handed. But now that a number of roster adjustments were made, they may have the assets to trade for him.

If the Cavs pursue Cousins, it can be expected that headlining their offer to the Kings is Kevin Love. Sadly for the former All-Star and franchise player, he is seen as the leading trade piece for Cleveland.

But because Sacramento is dead serious in keeping Cousins, Love may not be enough for the organization. If this is the case, the Cavaliers can add a veteran or a new player on their roster to have a package deal, future draft picks could also be included.

The Kings are seeking for a playmaker following Rajon Rondo's departure to join the Chicago Bulls this free agency. Cleveland can pair Love with either point guards Mo Williams and Kay Felder. Williams is an experienced player and has been in the league since 2003. Felder, on the other hand, is a young prospect who was selected 54th overall in this year's draft.
