CM Punk next fight rumors: WWE star not giving up his UFC dream

(Reuters)Wrestling superstar CM Punk, real name Phillip Brooks, seen in the month before he left the WWE over alleged creative differences.

CM Punk has yet to make his much-awaited debut despite the criticism involved in his new tenure of mixed martial arts fighting in the UFC.

Punk made that celebrated jump to the UFC and not all are convinced that he can achieve the same level of success he had in the WWE.

Wrestling has always been known to be 'fake,' though the injuries are real as many may have seen in commercials and promotions. But the UFC offers actual fighting, which means Punk finds himself in a whole new world where some stars from the WWE have already tried their hand.

Brock Lesnar made the jump and succeeded while other stars like Bobby Lashley didn't exactly have a memorable tenure. So which path will Punk have?

At 37 years of age, not too many are convinced that Punk can withstand the punishment that UFC fighters actually take inside the Octagon. Aside from that, he has been backstopped by injuries which have been the reason preventing him from making his actual UFC debut.

Punk already has an opponent in Mickey Gall, someone who hacked out a statement win over Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82.

Gall has strung up two consecutive wins and poses a big obstacle in Punk's intent to thrive in the UFC circle. Had it not been for the injury, both were reportedly all set to meet up for UFC 199. But that was until Punk opted to undergo back surgery which leaves Punk's UFC debut questionable.

The latest on Punk is that he has been working out with UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin, sending feelers that he is ramping up preparations for his first-ever UFC stint.

That is about it for now as the former WWE champion continues his journey for his long-awaited and criticized UFC tenure.
