Last week, there was a lot of speculation on the Internet that Sony was involved in bringing back the game "Crash Bandicoot." However, before the rumor died down, gamers were left with a short lived period of euphoria when they contemplated the possibility of the game's return.

This particular rumor about the revival of "Crash Bandicoot" came courtesy of Randy Falk, who works as the Director of Product Development at National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA). The company works on creating collectible toys for Sony, and when Falk stated that there was a possibility that the game of "Crash Bandicoot" was coming back in an interview to Pixel Dan, it was picked up and publicized by many gaming websites including Gamespot. Falk also went on to state that if the game was indeed being developed by Sony, then NECA would be interested in creating toys for it.

However, many took the news with a pinch of salt as Sony does not own the rights to the game. The rights still belong to Activision. Naughty Dog created the "Crash Bandicoot" game and it was initially only offered on the PlayStation consoles. However, after the rights were purchased by Activision, there were brought to consoles like the Xbox 360 with the last game "Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant" releasing in 2008.

Since then, there have been rumors that Sony has bought the rights to the game, but this was subsequently denied by Activision. At that time, Activision also indicated that it was looking to expand on the gaming franchise so Falk's statement came as a shock to many.

However, since Falk's statement, NECA toys has clarified that he saw a fake image on the Internet and then came to the conclusion that Sony was developing the game. This was what led to him making the statement during the interview. As soon as this particular clarification was issued by NECA, the rumors of a "Crash Bandicoot" game quickly fizzled out.
