'Crash Bandicoot' PS4 release date not anytime soon as rights still with Activision

(www.naughtydog.com)"Crash Bandicoot" rights are still with Activision.

With rumors about "Crash Bandicoot" being revived arriving on a daily basis and an Easter egg seen in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," analysts and gamers have been debating whether news of a new game will be released. However, in a recent announcement, Sony made it clear that it did not have the rights to the game and therefore could not comment on its revival.

The current rumors about the revival of "Crash Bandicoot" arrived when the game was featured in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," which is published by Sony. In the game, Nathan Drake was seen playing "Crash Bandicoot" on a PSOne console, along with his wife Elena. Importantly, as Nathan played the game, players could step into his shoes and control it. This was seen as a great homage to "Crash Bandicoot" by some, but others took it to be an indication that Sony was teasing a new game. Also, some people noted that the credits that rolled at the end of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" did not mention Activision. This they believe is because Sony owns the rights to "Crash Bandicoot" and that the game's revival would be announced during the upcoming E3 2016 gaming conference.

However, Adam Boyes, VP at PlayStation, took to Twitter to state that Sony does not own the rights to "Crash Bandicoot," but Activision does. This statement is clear indication that Sony will not be involved in the development of any new game in the series. Meanwhile, gamers who were happy with the "Crash Bandicoot" Easter egg in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" refuse to believe that it was just a nice homage. They are instead pushing the theory that a new "Crash Bandicoot" could be announced soon. Finally, it seems that in the near future, at least the rights of this game will continue to remain with Activision and will not be reacquired by Sony for a possible development on the PS4.
