"Criminal Minds" has always taken viewers into the deepest and darkest recesses of a criminal's mind, and while that aspect of the series has been compelling, so is seeing the characters try to deal with their personal lives. One character that fans are heavily invested in is Dr. Spencer Reid. Reports that the BAU's resident genius might have a love interest this season was greeted with cheers. But it seems fans might have celebrated too soon.

"Criminal Minds" season 11 is currently on hiatus but when it returns in January, Reid (Matthew Grey Gubler) will reportedly be going on another date from hell.

A brief description of the show's midseason premiere, "Entropy," states that the team will have a plan to capture the elusive assassins known as the Dirty Dozen. But more importantly for some fans, Reid will be going on a date with someone named Cat Adams (Aubrey Plaza).

Not much has been reported about how they met or what Cat does, but it's been revealed that while on their date, she pulls out a gun and tells the special agent that she knows what Reid does for a living. She also challenges Reid to a high stakes game of intellectual cat and mouse wherein the BAU member has to use his considerable intelligence to figure out Cat's game or the patrons of the restaurant will die.

Fans of Dr. Reid are undoubtedly disappointed that the writers have again come up with another failed romantic plotline for him, especially after "Criminal Minds" showrunner Erica Messer mentioned in previous interviews that it's time for Reid to move on from Maeve.

The "Criminal Minds" season 11 midseason finale also saw Hotch (Thomas Gibson) informing Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) about a break they caught in their case against the Dirty Dozen. What that break was wasn't mentioned but it's been reported that when the long-running police procedural returns, the BAU will have finally finished concocting an elaborate ruse to take down the hitmen ring.

"Criminal Minds" season 11 will return with a new episode on Jan. 13, 2016.
