After the successful release of "Daredevil" season 2, fans of the Marvel series have been waiting for Netflix's decision to renew the series for a third season. However, the streaming platform remains tight-lipped about it.

Fans of the series are worried that their beloved show is facing a potential cancellation since Netflix has not released an official statement yet regarding the show's future. According to reports, cancellation is unlikely to happen. However, it may take a long time before it returns on the streaming site again.

The reason why "Daredevil" will take a brief hiatus is because Netflix is currently focusing more on its upcoming Marvel Universe miniseries, "The Defenders," which Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is one of the main characters.

Joining Daredevil are Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). This just means that not only the creative minds behind "Daredevil" will be busy with this project but also Cox.

It is possible that "Daredevil" season 3 will be happening after "The Defenders" finishes. However, "Jessica Jones" gets a season 3 renewal. Despite fans' growing fear of the show's cancellation, from a marketing perspective, cancelling "Daredevil" would be reckless since it performed its season 2 really well in numbers. It is also one of the reasons why actor Jon Bernthal got a "The Punisher" spin-off series, after his outstanding performance as the title character in the previous season of "Daredevil."

As for "The Defenders," there are already rumors as who the main villain is. "Marvel is talking about setting Mephisto as the prime antagonist for the Defenders," a source to Screen Geek said. "Some may say that this villain wouldn't fit the TV shows but that's why they're incorporating Iron Fist — to set up the supernatural element. This would also help set up the next phase of the Netflix shows, as Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider are being considered."
