'Deadpool 2' news: Ed Skrein wants The Taskmaster to be the antihero

Although the villain for the upcoming "Deadpool 2" has already been hinted at the closing credits of the Ryan Reynolds blockbuster "Deadpool," Ed Skrein, who breathed life to Ajax in the said film, wishes that the upcoming sequel would feature a different antihero.

"The Taskmaster is just you know, so fun. ... to see Taskmaster and Wade Wilson/Deadpool together is so funny – watching them play in the Daniel Way collection they have these incredible riffs. He's a mercenary like Wade Wilson but he's a mercenary without morals. The only redeeming factor of Deadpool is his morals, right? Taskmaster does not have those morals, so he back-stabs and stuff like that," Skrein said in an interview with IGN.

According to Skrein, he believes that the inclusion of the character in the sequel would make it even more interesting, thanks to his hilarious character and cool appearance. As the antihero's superpower includes mimicking others' fighting style, Skrein believes that the movie will deliver an impressive visual impact.

"If he fought Deadpool and started whipping things around and doing all the flips, and then he fought Wolverine? It would be phenomenal - he's an incredible character," Skrein further revealed.

However, even before the first "Deadpool" movie was shown earlier this year, it was already reported that its forthcoming sequel would feature Cable as the unconventional hero's main antagonist. In his interview with Empire last year, "Deadpool" director Tim Miller already revealed that including Cable in a "Deadpool" movie is not a remote possibility as there aren't really enough villains for the character to battle with. Hence, for Miller, not including the antihero would be a source of embarrassment for the movie franchise.

As of this writing, though, there is still no official confirmation as to who would portray Cable in "Deadpool 2," although there are already a few actors who have made their interest in the role public. A few weeks back, a fan asked WWE Hall of Famer Edge (Adam Copeland in real life) on Twitter if he is open to the idea of portraying the character, to which the wrestler replied that he's okay with it.

Ron Perlman ("Hellboy") and Stephen Lang ("Avatar") have also declared that they are interested in the role of Cable.

As of this writing, there is still no official word as to when "Deadpool 2" will arrive in theaters, although rumors point to a late 2017 or early 2018 showing date.
