It appears that fans may have to wait a little longer before "Deadpool 2" hits cinemas in 2018. The unique and hilarious Marvel superhero played by actor Ryan Reynolds has managed to gain tons of fans after its huge box office success in theaters early this year.

Due to the demand for a sequel, 20th Century Fox has decided to cook up "Deadpool 2," only it might have to step aside for a while until "Wolverine 3" is released in cinemas.

Earlier this year, Fox had reserved two release dates for Marvel — one intended for "Deadpool 2" and the other for "Wolverine 3," the final movie in which Hugh Jackman plays the iconic "X-Men" superhero. The said release dates are March 2 and June 29, 2018.

In an interview, executive producer Simon Kinberg said that "Deadpool 2" will most likely be released on the latter date, since production for "Wolverine 3" had already started. "We're shooting the Wolverine movie right now and we should start shooting 'Deadpool 2' at the beginning of next year (2017)," Kinberg told "The Hashtag Show."

Although Kinberg did not reveal the nature or plans for the storyline of "Deadpool 2," he gave a few updates on other Marvel superhero movies like "Gambit," the "New Mutants" and the "X-Men" movies.

"Deadpool 2" comes after the first movie's surprise blockbuster success last February. This after "Deadpool" has been in development for 11 years.

"There was certainly a lot of anxiety, neuroses, and Judaism involved," joked Kinberg of how the production team felt before "Deadpool" was released.

According to Deadline, the adult comedy superhero movie reeled in about $756.8 million in the global box office. Meanwhile, in the United States alone, the movie grossed $358.4 million. It is said to be the second highest-grossing rated R film of all time, next to "The Passion of the Christ" and the highest-grossing film of all the "X-Men" franchise.

In the meantime, fans should watch out for more updates on "Deadpool 2."
