Detroit Pistons trade rumors 2016: Spurs' Patty Mills solution to point guard troubles?

Despite an injury to Reggie Jackson, it seems the Detroit Pistons are in no need of a new point guard. But if ever they aim to add one, among the choices is Patty Mills of the San Antonio Spurs.

Mills' addition is not just because of Jackson's expected absence due to a recent injury. This move could also be beneficial to the Pistons as they move forward.

Indeed, Mills can replace Jackson while he is dealing with the health setback. But aside from this, in the long run, he will give Detroit great depth at the no. 1 position.

When this happens, the Pistons will have Jackson, Mills, and Ish Smith to man the ball handling duties. All of them are quality playmakers and this is good for the franchise which aims to again contend in the upcoming season.

However, trying to nab Mills could turn out to be a tedious activity for the Pistons. The 28-year-old is an important player for the Spurs and head coach Gregg Popovich.

Mills is no prolific scorer but with the Spurs, he emerged due to his excellent shooting. In San Antonio, he found a home and was given the role as Tony Parker's main backup.

In a potential exchange, Mills is joined by Kyle Anderson (to match the salary) and they will be shipped by the Spurs to the Pistons who will give up Marcus Morris.

The Spurs may say "yes" since they are landing Morris, who is an efficient player on both ends of the floor. Along with this, even if Mills leave, they still have two point guards who can support Tony Parker.

Meanwhile, the Pistons land Mills who is a major upgrade for them at no. 1. Anderson may have been included for salary purposes but he might be a great role player for them.
