'Devious Maids' season 5 renewal possible? Lifetime cancels series following cliffhanger finale

(Facebook/deviousmaids)Lifetime has canceled "Devious Maids."

"Devious Maids" has officially been canceled by Lifetime after four seasons. After leaving its fate up in the air for a few weeks since its seaso 4 finale, the network finally made the decision to axe the series, which means season 5 is a no-go.

It has been reported that "Devious Maids" was on the verge of cancellation, owing it to subpar ratings that couldn't match those from its previous seasons. Deadline exclusively reported on Lifetime's move to cancel the series. And despite being somewhat consistent when it comes to viewership, the show will not go on.

But that doesn't mean that the show won't get picked up somewhere else. This is what fans are hoping for at this point, especially since the fourth season's finale episode ended with a cliffhanger. However, no other network or streaming service has expressed an interest in reviving the show.

Season 4 closed with many stories being wrapped up, but it also opened a new plotline. The finale saw a time jump of one year and showed Marisol (Ana Ortiz) disappearing, perhaps kidnapped, on her wedding day. If this really is the end for the series, then fans may not ever know what happened.

However, executive producer Sabrina Wind previously teased while speaking with TVLine that Marisol's disappearance would have been "a completely new story" that would "launch us into the new season." Additionally, new faces, like Dani's father, would have been introduced and more problems would have been in store for viewers.

Many fans have taken to various social media accounts to protest the cancellation and have even gone as far as petitioning for its survival on Change.org. At this point, nothing is definite, so the only thing fans can do is keep their fingers crossed and hope for the best.

"Devious Maids" concluded its fourth season on Aug. 8.
