Discovery Channel's popular yearly show "Shark Week" just kicked off last Sunday with "Shark Trek," "Island of the Mega Shark," "Monster Mako," and "Shark After Dark."

Last year, "Shark Week" received an impressive rating and number of viewers. As reported on NPR, "Shark Week" 2014's viewership reached an amazing count of 40 million and while the figure was truly outstanding, the show failed to include enough science.

However, to make up for it, Discovery Channel vice president Howard Swartz said that this year, the shows are focused more on the scientists and the research involved. Swartz told USA Today "we're focusing hard on the scientists this year and the research that a lot of the science community is engaging in with shark behavior."

As for the quality of this year's "Shark Week," marine biologist Jonathan Davis has agreed that "Shark Week 2015" really does focus more on the science aspect compared to last year's, as mentioned on Nola.

Christian Today also added that fans would no longer be seeing any "Voodoo Sharks" or Megalodon, as the shows are all about pure shark science.
