The newest Dragon Ball movie "Resurrection of F" has achieved a new landmark at the box office, with the movie surpassing all the previous offering in the series "Battle of the Gods". As reported in this article at Crunchy Roll, "Resurrection of F" opened to a very strong 960,586,350 yen in Japan, marking the year's biggest opening so far in the country. All told, Toei Animation is predicting a take of over 5 billion yen, as the movie completes its Japanese theatrical run.

For comparison's sake, "Battle of the Gods" recorded a 2.9 billion take during its Japanese run, which in itself, was fairly impressive. "The Dragon Ball" franchise was still stinging from poorly adapted live action films and hadn't released an anime series or animated film prior to its release. Whatever the case, with the massive success of "Battle of the Gods" and now "Resurrection of F", it appears that "Dragon Ball" is back in a big way. The franchise also has a new animated series entitled "Dragon Ball Super" on the way; so fans of the franchise will have plenty of content to keep them happy for now, as well as in the near future.

While fans in Japan and other regions in Asia already have access to the latest "Dragon Ball" film, a North American release date is yet to be set for "Resurrection of F". The film did premiere in Hollywood last April 11 at the Egyptian Theater, but has not yet been released in theaters across America. Still, with "Resurrection of F" expanding its release territories of late, North American fans won't have to wait too long.

"Resurrection of F" features the return of long-time "Dragon Ball" villain Freiza. A new form for both Frieza and Son Goku will debut in the hotly anticipated film.
