Motorola appears to be heading into the mainstream smartphone fight club with the 'DROID Turbo' release date a smartphone rumored to be loaded with killer specs that can outgun 2014 top-sellers Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5.

"The main talking point of the Droid Turbo specs is its 2k (2560 x 1440 pixels) 5.2-inch pixel display. 2k resolutions already exist on the LG G3 (5.5-inch) and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (5.7-inch), but this is the first time we've seen it used on anything that could just about be used with one hand," Forbes' Gordon Kelly reported.

A recent tweet from Moto Firmware revealed the packaging of the handset.

Motorola is also the company responsible for the bombastic look and specs of Nexus 6, and those who are wishing for a more compact form factor may see their desire coming true with Droid Turbo.

Aside from impeccable display, the new Motorola king is reported to be sporting a 21 MP camera and a high capacity battery pack that can last for days.

But, arguably the most interesting element that Droid Turbo can bring to the mobile realm is its Snapdragon 805 chipset, the fastest processor that Qualcomm has on their shelves at present.

With this, Droid Turbo is poised to go up against Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus in the "fastest smartphone in the world" category, which is also rumored to run the same processing unit.

Speculations about this new high-end phone from Motorola's turf were heated up after Verizon Wireless sent out press invites for an event on Oct. 28.

"Join Verizon Wireless as we introduce the newest DROID," the invitation said. The Big Red has also resurrected its Droid Does page for the alleged Droid Turbo.

According to Verizon, the Droid Turbo will be offered exclusively by carrier with an Oct. 30 release date. The price starts at $199.99 with a two-year contract on Verizon, or $25 per month with Verizon's Edge early upgrade program.
