Fan-favorite and five-time Mirror ball trophy winner Derek Hough has severely injured himself, leading to speculation that he may not be present in the rest of season 20 of "Dancing With The Stars".

Hough's representative issued a statement that clarified the situation. TVGuide reports that he said, "While rehearsing for the 10th Anniversary Dancing with the Stars television special Monday night in Los Angeles, Derek Hough suffered injuries to his right foot and left ankle. He has been diagnosed with a broken toe on his right foot and sprains to his left ankle on both the inside and outside aspects and a bone bruise on the same ankle."

It remains unclear when Hough will be back but right now the ace dance is recuperating and undergoing rehab in a facility in Los Angeles. He will definitely be unable to rehearse or perform for the April 27 episode. Pro-dancer Sasha Farber will be stepping in and performing with Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin. Additionally, Hough's understudy will replace him in the New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

E! News further reports that Hough is awaiting test results and did an MRI to glean the full extent of his injuries. Good friend and fellow "DWTS" pro-dancer, Mark Ballas, was with Derek till 2 a.m.

Hough also posted an Instagram photo explaining that he didn't sustain the injuries dancing or flipping, but got them due to "a light and some stairs". He also explained his hectic schedule that involved 10 shows a week at Radio City while rehearsing for "DWTS".

Fortunately, Nastia has experience in dancing with partners other than Derek. She practices with Henry Byalikov for half the week due to Derek's hectic schedule. Once the extent of his injuries are known, fans will know how long Derek will be away for this season.

"DWTS" airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
