'Empire' season 3 spoilers: new trailer sees the Lyons united

The ever-growing cast of "Empire" season 3 will be welcoming another new face to the list: "The Cosby Show" alum Phylicia Rashad.

In an exclusive report by Entertainment Weekly, it was revealed that Rashad would be playing the mother of another new character on the show, played by Taye Diggs. Diggs will be portraying Angelo Dubois, a distinguished New York councilman who belongs to one of the state's oldest and most powerful families. Angelo will also be Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) new love interest in the third season.

Rashad will be playing Angelo's mother, Diana, who is equally as ambitious as her son. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diana wants Angelo to aim higher on the political ladder and will do everything in her power to help him achieve that goal. 

Apart from Rashad, other notable names have also been added to the "Empire" season 3 roster. It was previously reported that rapper French Montana has been tapped to play Vaughn, a close colleague of Lucious' (Terrence Howard) and a well-known music magnate. Kid Cudi will be portraying a rapper named Gram, Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) new rival. Ajiona Alexus and Jeremy Carver have also been cast to play younger versions of Cookie and Lucious, respectively.

Another famous icon in the music industry, Mariah Carey, will be guest starring as Kitty. Like Carey, Kitty is a reputable singer superstar. She will find herself working with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) on a new song and will help him with his personal issues.

As for the main characters of the show, it seems like the Lyons will be facing more drama this upcoming season. A season 3 trailer, titled "Kill or Be Killed," has been released on YouTube. The clip shows the Lyons family seemingly standing strong against the new the hurdles that they are faced with, but it remains to be seen if their world will stay intact or will crumble around them.
