'Fast and Furious 8' plot spoilers: A love triangle brews between Toretto, Ortiz and Fuentes; MMA champs Rousey and Jedrzejczyk join cast

There will be a lot of changes when "Fast and Furious 8" hits theaters in 2017. But one change that will take everyone by surprise is the rumored relationship between undercover customs agent Monica Fuentes and Dominic Toretto.

Rumors that Mendes will be back for "Furious 8" have been making the rounds for a while now. But what is surprising is the story line the movie's writers might pursue. According to a report, Mendes' character will be back and will be the cause of a major rift between Dominic Toretto and his longtime love, Letty Ortiz.

Aside from Mendes, two more actresses are also set to join the cast – mixed martial artists Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The reigning UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, Rousey, was also in "Furious 7". Meanwhile, this is Jedrzejczyk's first foray into acting. The 27-year-old is the current UFC Women's Strawweight Champion.

Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody is also back and is said to be the link between "Furious 8" and "Furious 9." Russell's portrayal of the enigmatic Mr. Nobody easily made him a favorite and fans knew early on that he would be a great asset to the franchise. Vin Diesel admitted as much in previous interviews.

"Kurt Russell came in for this movie but we really hired him for a story that follows this, that takes place in New York," Diesel said.

Dwayne Johnson is also set to reprise his character Luke Hobbs while Jason Statham is back as Deckard Shaw.

Vin Diesel, the movie's de facto spokesperson, announced during CinemaCon that "Fast and Furious 8" is set to be released on April 14, 2017. He also mentioned that the movie will be a tribute to his friend Paul Walker, who tragically died midway through filming "Furious 7."

Vin Diesel also teased what appears to be the logo for "Furious 8." The Instagram post was captioned #TorettoTuesday and showed the Brooklyn Bridge with the New York skyline in the background, a hint perhaps to where the next movie will be filmed.
